This effort was elevated to a larger scaled scheme of covering multiple houses at once with canvas tents.  Then, the cyanide gas would be introduced within the enclosed tents in hopes of eradicating the bug (Vines, 2).  Both of these methods were at least somewhat effective, but neither technique was practical enough for a national campaign against these bugs.
