Generally, the most effective programs have followed a similar pattern of stages.  These stages are as follows: the infested areas would be mapped out in detail; the areas would then be sprayed with insecticides; a follow-up spray would occur within two years with selective areas being re-sprayed a third or more time with careful evaluation; finally, local volunteers would keep watch for the appearance of new triatomine bugs (Moncayo et al., 19).
