There were two main objectives of the Southern Cone Initiative (SCI).  The first, and main objective, was aimed at eliminating the populations of Triatoma infestans.  The WHO has defined elimination of this bug as “the failure to detect any Triatoma infestans for a minimum of three years after entomological surveillance has been instituted.”
