The
ascent of insecticides in the 1940s gave rise to using this method as a
potential solution. Some insecticides were found to be ineffective, such as
DDT, but others were found to be “highly effective when sprayed over house
walls at relatively high doses” (Dias
et al.,
604). Due to this finding, many countries started to have spraying
campaigns throughout the 1940s and 1950s (Vines, 2). As insecticide
technology developed to become more efficient and effective and less toxic,
spraying campaigns have continued to be in use in multiple countries.
