Also around this time, TDR (which is sponsored by the WHO and performs research on diseases of poverty) claimed that Chagas disease was the third largest disease burden for Latin America.  Due to these statistics, it is no surprise that there have been many attempts and initiatives aimed at controlling and combating this disease.
