Part of the SCBA evaluation is to determine if any compressed air is remaining in the cylinder.  If there is air remaining, a sample is taken and sent to a third party laboratory of evaluation.  The air sample is tested against the Compressed Gas Association requirements under G-7.1.  The dew point is tested and compared to the requirements under the OSHA regulations of less than or equal to -50 degrees F and the NFPA requirements of less than -65 degrees F.  If the SCBA is suitable for testing, NPPTL performs 7 separate tests on the unit, 6 are NIOSH standard certification tests and 1 is the NFPA high flow test.  NPPTL will replace the cylinder and or the facepiece for testing if these items are not in a condition to be included with the testing.
