The remaining Service Life Indicator Test or Low Air Alarm Test is performed on the SCBA to determine if the unit alarms within the required NIOSH range.  This range is determined by if the unit has a remote gauge and if that gauge has a flow restrictor.  If there is a restrictor present with the gauge, then the requirement is for all alarms present to activate at 20 to 25% of the maximum rated cylinder pressure.  If the unit does not have a restrictor, then the alarms must activate at 23 to 27% of the rated maximum cylinder pressure.  The test is performed 6 times and an average pressure is determined and this average is used in determining a pass or fail.
