Hawaiian papaya, this was almost wiped out by a virus, Ring Spot virus.  Scientists some 20 years ago made a Hawaiian papaya, that was resistant to the Ring Spot Virus and now if you go anywhere in the U.S. and pick up a papaya, it almost certainly is a GM papaya. It's not labeled as such though.  Why?  Because the government decided it was going to be too dangerous when the farmers protested, and it would wipe out the papaya industry.  So what did the government do?  They decided well, we will grandfather papaya.  It was done so long ago we will pretend it's natural and it's only new stuff that has to be labeled.
