Table 2 (in the last slide) apparently shows that a sufficient number of monitoring sites had POC residue levels greater than the screening values by more than 30-fold. According to U.S. EPA (2000a), concentrations exceeding these screening values are considered to be of public health concern. Thus for these areas, perhaps no more than one or two fish meals (8 oz. each) per month should be recommended, especially for the higher risk groups (e.g., children and pregnant women), in order to keep the dietary intake of POCs below the ADI or RfD levels. However, it is well taken that this kind of fish advisory is not practical to residents who rely on fish as their main diet.
