Environmental health policy. Certain environmental health programs or health policies should be developed and implemented, with a focus on better handling of waste removal and on how POCs should be used. A law or a policy similar to the U.S. Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) passed in 1996 should be adopted to focus on children’s (including pregnant women’s) higher sensitivity to most chemical residues, and on the health impacts of cumulative and aggregate exposures. Governments should have available more, as well as more effective, illness surveillance programs, which should be linkable to the community’s levels of exposure to POCs.
