Cigarette smoking is one of the few avoidable risk factors having a visible impact on perinatal mortality statistics. Smoking is socially acceptable in most societies. In the USA, one in six low birth weight infants are due to maternal smoking. Low birth weight, leading to cerebral palsy and other severe birth defects is the main effect. Collaborate with organizations aiming at cigarette smoking restraint by providing them with actual data on prenatal effects.
