What does the future hold?  To begin with, the population pundits are telling us that we can expect another couple of billion to be added to the human population over the coming decades.  The UN’s latest projections suggest that 9 billion is an optimistic guess.  But given current assessments of reproductive rates, it’s looking probable that the population will stabilize at about 10 billion.
