The University Library System will host the full collection of Pitt podcast ‘Being Human’

The full collection of audio and transcripts of “Being Human” — a University of Pittsburgh podcast “devoted to exploring the humanities, their intersections with other disciplines, and their value in the public world” that ran from 2015-2022 — is now available from Archives and Special Collections at University Library System (ULS).

Dan Kubis, who served as associate director of the Pitt's Humanities Center from 2015-2020, started the podcast as a way of documenting the University’s Year of the Humanities. With support from the center’s then-director Jonathan Arac and Greg Weston at WPTS Radio, which produced the show throughout its run, Kubis (A&S ’96, ’13G) interviewed more than 50 scholars and artists who visited Pitt for talks or events on campus in the first five seasons.

Students have also been heavily involved in the podcast’s creation since its inception, thanks to the WPTS partnership. The show’s first undergraduate producer, Matt Moret (A&S ’17) is now the morning editor for Colorado Public Radio. Jacqui Sieber (CGS ’21) served as media fellow and producer of the sixth season of “Being Human,” which invited Pitt faculty members to discuss their research and personal stories of life during the pandemic. Sieber now hosts “All Things Considered” at WUOT in Knoxville, Tennessee. A current junior, Abby Dzwik, transcribed and edited the episodes during the 2022-23 academic year.
