Forbes Avenue sidewalk closures planned through April

A drone shot of people using a crosswalk

As The Eatery finalizes the installation of new entrances on Forbes Avenue, sidewalk access adjacent to Litchfield Towers will be closed. For the next three weeks, detours will be in place that point pedestrians to cross Forbes prior to meeting the construction area. Signage will direct the walking public cross at Bouquet Street or the Lawrence Hall-Schenley Quad crosswalk, with the pedestrian bridge also remaining open.

After this phase of construction, the sidewalk will partially open through the remainder of the project, which is slated to finish in April.

Additional sidewalk closures remain in place on Forbes Avenue, including impacts to areas around Hillman Library. The sidewalk adjacent to the library on Forbes and Schenley Drive will continue to be closed through the spring semester.

As a reminder, there is no pedestrian access to this corner of Forbes and Schenley during this phase of construction. Those traveling around Hillman are directed to cross the roadway prior to the construction fencing.

Track updates and associated construction impacts. Plans and timing are subject to change based on conditions.

Tips for pedestrians near construction zones

When walking near construction areas, Public Safety and Emergency Management advises pedestrians to:

  • Stay vigilant around construction areas.
  • Heed all warning signs and instructions from construction workers.
  • Never cut through construction zones or cross safety barriers.
  • Follow designated navigation, pavement markings and barriers that temporarily redirect traffic.
  • Watch for construction, police or other vehicles that may be entering and exiting the area.

To report a construction safety concern or issue, call Facilities Management at 412-624-9500, available 24 hours a day.
