Vidya Surti, a third-year student at Pitt, was elected to the board of directors for Radiant Hall, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit dedicated to providing studio space for artists via an equitable, community-centered model.

Surti, an English and anthropology major in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, said she is passionate about disability inclusion, community impact and nonprofit leadership — values that align with the goals and mission of Radiant Hall.

“As someone who experiences a disability, I would like to provide insight into organizational strategic planning and increase support for disabled artists through community partnerships and programming,” said Surti, who is also a student in the David C. Frederick Honors College.

In addition to her advocacy and advising contributions, she said she would like to use her time serving on Radiant Hall’s board to learn more about the financial logistics of nonprofit management, skills she can use after graduation.

“Serving on Radiant Hall’s board of directors is an opportunity to better know and become integrated with the people and communities that make up Pittsburgh,” she said.
