Undergraduate student Vidya Surti joined the Allegheny Regional Asset District citizen advisory board

Portrait of Vidya Surti

Vidya Surti, a junior in Pitt’s David C. Frederick Honors College, was elected to the Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) citizen advisory board.

RAD provides grants to Allegheny County's libraries, parks and trails, arts and cultural organizations, public transit and more, and supports tax relief and local government services across Allegheny County. As a member of the board, Surti, who is majoring in English and anthropology in Pitt’s Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, will comment on policies and procedures in RAD’s operations and grantmaking process.

Revenue for the special purpose local government unit comes from half of the proceeds of an additional 1% sales and use tax in Allegheny County. RAD has invested more than $4 billion in the region since 1995.
