Pitt names 2023 Nordenberg Leadership Scholars

Based on their demonstrated leadership skills, innovative thinking and community involvement, 5 of Pennsylvania’s top high school seniors were named to the 2023 class of Nordenberg Leadership Scholars. The winners will receive a full-tuition scholarship to attend the University of Pittsburgh and participate in the leadership program for four years.

The scholarship, named for Chancellor Emeritus Mark A. Nordenberg, covers an international learning experience along with the eight semesters at Pitt. The scholars also receive assistant with professional experiences, such as finding internships and networking with local companies.

“The program is unique because it incorporates rigorous academic engagement with an ambitious and structured curriculum outside the classroom that is designed to challenge the scholars to excel in leadership, global awareness, citizenship and civic engagement,” said Kenyon Bonner, vice provost and dean of students.

Here are this year’s Nordenberg Leadership Scholars:

• Donovan Allen of Pittsburgh, Central Catholic High School
• Kendal Chilcoat of Pine, Pine-Richland High School
• Kamani Kegler of Philadelphia, Merion Mercy Academy
• Kylie Baker of Coopersburg, Southern Lehigh High School
• Michaiah Johnson of Ephrata, Conestoga Valley High School
