Lara Putnam, professor of history at the University of Pittsburgh, was cited in a lawsuit the New Mexico Attorney General has brought against Meta Platforms, formerly Facebook, for design flaws.

The lawsuit uses findings from Putnam’s 2022 Wired article about online child sexual abuse and exploitation. Along with her position in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, Putnam directs Pitt’s Global Studies Center and is research professor for the University Center for International Studies.

Putnam also has a secondary appointment in the School of Computing and Information and leads the civic resilience initiative at the Pitt Disinformation Lab in the Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security.
