Andrew Mugler Earns Editors’ Suggestion Honor

Panther Flag

Andrew Mugler, an assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, has published a paper in Physical Review Letters that has been recognized as an Editors’ Suggestion. About one letter in six is chosen for this recognition.

Mugler’s paper, “Precision of Protein Thermometry,” shows that the precision of temperature sensing is set by a cell’s internal “thermometer,” a network of interacting protein molecules. Techniques from theoretical physics were used to derive the precision limit for this type of protein thermometer.

The Mugler Group investigates cell behavior, relying on a wide range of tools including statistical physics, stochastic modeling and information theory.
