We turn now to discuss some of the implementation issues for policy, plans and programmes.

Once the mental health policy and plan have been formulated it is important that the ministry of health disseminate and communicate the policy to the health district offices and other partner agencies, targeting key individuals.  Many policies fail simply because they are poorly communicated. It is a specific function of the mental health professionals in the ministry of health and the health districts to disseminate the new policy widely to all the stakeholders.

Dissemination of the policy may include the following activities:

iOrganizing a public event with the media

iPrinting and distributing booklets, posters and leaflets

iHolding meetings with health teams, consumers, families, advocacy groups and other stakeholders

iOrganizing national and international seminars
