Strategic Goal One incorporates the respirator certification program, updates to the 42 CFR part 84 and research to address protection against inhalation hazards. Strategic Goal Two incorporates efficacy of barrier materials and technologies, including protective clothing research and protective clothing evaluations such as the Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program. Strategic Goal Three encompasses PPT research initiatives involving fall protection and hearing loss prevention devices, which are managed by other NIOSH sector programs. The fourth goal was added in FY 2010 to include PPT issues that affect more than one of the other core strategic goals, such as surveillance and communication activities.
