There are four phases in the Demographic transition

 

Phase 1 High Birth Rate and High Death Rate-Population stable

 

Phase 2 Death rate drops rapidly, birth rate remains high-Population increases

 

Phase 3 Death rate low, birth rate falling-Population growing

 

Phase 4 Death rate low, birth rate low-Population steady but a considerable increase in overall population during phases 1-4
