The two sides in the debate hurl insults-

There is a powerful industrial lobby who have become very rich  from fossil fuel  exploitation. They have vested interest in the status quo. Money can pay for scientists and lawyers to support their views and to criticize the climatologists.

Scientists have become increasingly interested in the area of climate change but there is still important debate and further investigation to obtain quality evidence. The science has not always been scrupulous and evidence and ideas contrary to the established view may not get published.

Climate change and its advocacy has developed a strong following and sometimes audiences feel that they are being preached at and harangued rather than persuaded.

The general public are scared, indifferent or unsure-recycling garbage seems a bit inadequate with extinction facing mankind.
