Continually reinforce the positive steps the participants are taking for themselves every time they do not smoke.

Remind them that it is normal to think about smoking, it takes several months for these thoughts to go away. Remind them it is not a big deal.

Remind participants that different situations will occur from time to time that might "tempt" them to smoke again. And to use the coping skills learned, deep breathing, relaxation, removing you from the situation. etc.

Do not give into temptation. Instruct participants they need to pat themselves on the back every time they get through a situation where they are tested.

Be proud of yourself; celebrate the freedom of being smoke free!!
