Electrostatic: This is a mechanism applicable to all sizes of particles. Generally, N filters, such as the N95 respirator, are electromagnetically charged. Some filters are positively charged and some filters are negatively charged. When a charged particle comes through the filter, it is attracted to the opposite charge and it is captured by the filter medium. This method generally enhances the capabilities of the other, previously discussed mechanisms.
