The first step in developing a BA National SuperHelp desk is to determine the current rates of publication in Public Health or in other sciences. There are 3 primary data bases where this can be easily done.  Scopus http://www.scimagojr.com/countryrank.php

is the easiest to use and one can compare rates of publication over time, and between countries.  It is easy to obtain a sense of productivity within ones country and how this compares to others.  A difficulty of Scopus is that it employs broad categories, it e.g. Public Health, Environmental health and occupational health.   Also the sub categories do not include groups like Cardiovascular Epidemiology, global health, etc.  However this is a powerful and easy means to identify the current  state of publication for a countries.  Google Scholar http://scholar.google.com/ and Pub Med http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/ are also powerful to look at sub groups, but one needs to be careful to use a consistent definition.

It is critical to evaluate the current state of the art of publication for a country as our mission is to produce a major increase in publication in epidemiology, global and public health.  The baseline data are very important. These data can also be used to publish and present to national figures to demonstrate the need for resources in public health.
