The 1986 survey was mailed to only those participants who returned a similar mailed survey in 1982. The 1986 survey asked detailed questions on participation in various activities over the preceding 10 years. It also contained questions on musculoskeletal injuries over the same time period and gathered information on the site, severity and cause of injury. Additional risk factor information such as training practices and injury history were also ascertained. There were a total of 6,315 surveys returned in 1986.
