This paper selected a subset of respondents to the 1986 survey who reported their primary activity as participation in a run/walk/jog program. We defined an injury as any self-reported lower extremity injury that required consultation with a physician. The purpose of this study was to investigate gender-specific risk factors for lower extremity injuries among recreational walkers, joggers and runners.
