In spite of a reduction in salivary cotinine concentrations following intervention in the two treatment groups, the increase in cotinine at 6 weeks postpartum and 1 year postpartum is indicative of relapse. 

 

This data is reflective of the 25% sampling of cotinine analyzed from the sample.

These findings are consistent with reported relapse among adult pregnant women who accomplished cessation during pregnancy
