For smoking females in general, there are nonreproductive and reproductive effects from smoking.

Nonreproductive effects of smoking include:

Cancer, Coronary artery disease, earlier menopause, COPD, vascular disease, and gastric ulcers.

 

Reproductive effects include:

Impaired tubal motility leading to ectopic pregnancy

Increased rate of spontaneous abortion (42% smokers vs 18% nonsmokers)

Decreased fertility

Ovulatory dysfunction with abnormal bleeding 67% higher for heavy smokers than nonsmokers.

The slide lists the various effects of smoking on pregnancy which increases risk for both the mother and child.

Smoking attributable costs for complicated births range from 1.4 to 2 billion dollars annually.
