In 2000 for the first time since 1995 the maternal mortality has decreased. If since 1995 in Latvia 8 women died during pregnancy, childbirth or puerperium each year, then in 2000 - 5 women only, 2 of them - outside the hospital. The main reasons of death are: abortions ( included illegal ), sepsis after abortion, embolism amniotic fluid, phlebotrombosis and hemorrhage.
