The mental health of the worker is as important as his/.her physical health yet it is often ignored or forgotten. The sense of well being, the sickness record, the productivity may all be more related to mental health than physical health.

In a lifetime 1:6 of us is significantly depressed requiring treatment. Dull and repetitive work, particularly with pressure to meet production targets may trigger stress, anxiety and depression.

The workplace, like the school play ground can be a place of bullying and harassment with consequent anxiety, even fear.

The abuse of alcohol can effect performance skills, increase accident rates and increase sickness absenteeism. Alcohol in the workplace is dangerous and lunch time drinking problematic.

Work can also be therapeutic and getting someone back to work early after sickness or accident may be a powerful factor in their overall recovery.
