This slide makes the point that the lack of difference in the results in road traffic related fractures between affluent and deprived areas in this study does not challenge the well-studied relationship which shows car related fatal injuries being higher in deprived children. There are two possible explanations for this. The first is that the numbers of motor vehicle related fractures in this study are small and so there is little power to detect a difference. The other explanation is that the causes of fatal injuries may differ from the causes of non-fatal injuries.
