Socioeconomic state can be measures at the individual or group level. In individuals a variety of methods are used in different countries varying from social status of jobs (social class), income or education. Income can also be measured at the household level. Very often we do not have access to data at the individual level but we do at the group level. We then apply the group average to the individual in an ecological study.
