- CRASH Coordinating centre will provide you with all treatment packs

- The treatment is a loading infusion of 100mL, given over one hour

- Followed by an infusion of 20mL per hour for 48 hours, or until discharge, if this is sooner

- Each treatment pack contains

- 11 x 2gm vials of methylprednisolone (MP) or placebo

- an intravenous infusion set

- CRASH stickers to be attached to the bags and to the front cover of the patient notes

(The steroid dosing regimen is that used in the NASCIS 2 and NASCIS 3 trials of MP in acute spinal cord injury. However, fixed doses will be used in order to simplify the procedure. A 48-hour corticosteroid infusion is being tested because recent trials of MP in acute spinal cord injury have indicated slightly more neurological recovery with 48 than with 24 hours.)
