Overweight and obesity as causes of death in the US are second only to smoking.
In 1994–96 in the US, pizza, Mexican food, Chinese food, hamburgers, French fries and cheeseburgers accounted for 10.8 % of total fat intake. These 6 foods accounted for only 1.9 % of fat intake in 1965. (Prev Med 2001; 32: 245–54). That is 5.7 times more! The statement on dietary fat intake changes in the US from 1965- 95 is a necessary and sufficient proof that fast foods are contributing strongly to the obesity outbreak.
