One of the three core public health functions is to assess and monitor the health of communities and populations at risk in order to identify health problems and priorities. It is due to this very core function that health risk assessment has a very important place in public health, especially in industrial and developing countries. The other two core functions involve formulating needed public policies and assuring health care access by all segments of the public.
