We selected 25 men as “cases” and 25 men as “controls” in whom to compare pesticide levels. To avoid possible confounding, we selected these 50 men from study subjects who had none of the risk factors associated with poorer semen quality (such as recent fever or history of infertility). Cases were men in whom all semen parameters were significantly reduced compared to controls.
