In all, 787 couples participated and 658 men (one-quarter of those eligible) gave one or more semen samples. Both partners also gave urine and blood samples at their study visit.  

Most of these subjects were Caucasian, except those recruited in California. Subjects in California were also less educated and slightly younger than those in other centers.  Subjects in Missouri tended to smoke more and be heavier.
