I started my career as a sports medicine clinician taking care of collegiate athletes and teaching undergraduates in Athletic Training. Injury surveillance and identifying injury risk factors was my area of interest. Since there is little epidemiological information about sports injuries available, I obtained my doctoral degree in Epidemiology. This lecture is a culmination of my doctoral dissertation focusing on the epidemiology of activity-related injuries among moderately active adults. I currently work at the Centers for Disease Control in the Arthritis Program, where I consult with various organizations and review grants and manuscripts on the topic of sports injury epidemiology. My focus within the Arthritis Program is to conduct public health surveillance on arthritis and to investigate the relationship between physical activity, joint injury and arthritis.
