Why I love college

Living in a city
I love being able to explore Pittsburgh and all it has to offer. Just the other day I took a bus to Southside with my friends to go shopping. I have friends who go to schools with campuses in the middle of nowhere, and they just do not have the opportunity to do that.
Freedom
Being able to come and go as I please has been a complete perk of college. There is no longer an interrogation that comes with leaving the house, where are you going, what are you doing, who with. Sometimes, If I need to get out and just go to the library late at night for a little, I can do so without question.
Dorm Life
Within the first week, I not only became extremely close with my roommate, but also everyone on my floor. I live in Tower B, and we all just leave our door open and theres always opportunity to socialize when you want. At home, I would have to drive 10 minutes to a friends house. Here, I literally walk ten feet and I am at my friends door and we can make plans without extensive texting.
Responsibility
Something completely unique to high school was the teachers. All of them knew you personally, and if you were falling behind or did not do an assignment, they would contact you personally. Here, I like the fact that everything is up to you. It is up to you to get your assignments done, and study for the exams. It makes for a greater sense of accomplishment when you get that grade you had been working for.
Choosing Classes
Being able to make your own schedule is something I find really appealing in college. If you want to be able to sleep in certain days, you can tailor your schedule to do so. I also think it is beneficial if you want to get a job, because then you can schedule your classes as necessary, either in the morning or at night, so you can work at the other times. Also being able to pick from a multitude of interesting electives makes for an exiting and engaging curriculum.
No more high school
Although stereotypical, high schoolers really are immature and cliquey. This makes for a lot of unnecessary drama within friend groups. This is something I definitely do not miss. People in college do not care that you were on the varsity football team, or whether or not you are popular. It is all about who you are as an actual person.

Things I have Learned About College

  1. I thought college would involve a lot more freedom, and it did
  2. I thought I would find a lot of friends very similar to me, and this turned out to be false (not in a bad way)
  3. I discovered that it is not that hard to keep in touch with friends from home that I actually want to keep in touch with
