Observations were made during one day of a 4-month window during Spring 1999.

School official unobtrusively observed bicycle rack while students where on their way to or from school.

The observers recorded the use of bicycle helmet, the gender, and the rider’s race - white, black or other. No attempt was made to identify Hispanic ethnicity.
