Papillomas occur predominantly in 1-3 yo horses on the muzzle or oral cavity. Biopsy tissues will show i.n. inclusion bodies in the stratum spinosum in the early stages. Antibody can be detected by AGDP; they persist and are associated with life long immunity. While most lesions respond spontaneously they can be subjected to cryo or laser surgery. No valid vaccines are commercially available yet.
