A double-blind, placebo-controlled study examined the comparative effects of placebo, nicotine patch, bupropion SR, and nicotine patch plus bupropion SR.

The results indicated that cessation rates associated with a combination of the patch and bupropion SR were significantly higher than those in the patch and placebo groups. Addition of the patch to bupropion SR increased cessation rates by 5.2 percentage points, but this increase was not statistically significant.
