APHEA Project (Air Pollution Health Effects: a European Approach)

This multi-centre study started in 1993, with funding from the European Community, with the purpose of evaluating the short-term impact of air pollution on the health of the European population. During its first phase, there were 15 European cities from 10 different countries participating, with a total study population of approximately 25 million inhabitants (Katsouyanni et al., 1995).
