IDDM incidence in the Americas varies greatly. These data come from registries participating in the DIAMOND Project. Populations with a higher percentage of Caucasians seem to have a higher incidence than populations with a higher percentage of Blacks, Mestizos or American Indians. All these registries have used standard methodology to collect and analyze the data. In this way we are able to compare the incidence rates from the different centers.
