I am currently a fellow in the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and in the Department of Epidemiology at the Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh. My research interests lie in the area of diabetes epidemiology and etiology, especially of type 1 diabetes in minorities and the impact of diabetes in populations in Latin America.
I started working in this area when I was a student in medical school and decided to get additional training in Pittsburgh. It is extremely important to know what is the impact of a disease in a population and which are the risk factors that contribute to its development. This information allows us to measure the burden of the disease and gets us closer to find a way of preventing it.
Working in the area of type 1 diabetes is exciting, challenging and emotionally very rewarding.
