I have been here at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in Johnstown, Pennsylvania since 1995, and I have worked on molecular population genetics of mitochondrial and nuclear genes in Drosophila melanogaster fruit flies. I have also worked on projects on the genetics of pigeons. In recent years my focus has been on development of curricular material for undergraduate biology education. I am a coauthor of the molecular genetics textbooks Lewin's Essential Genes, Lewin's Genes X, Lewin's Genes XI, and Lewin's Genes XII for Jones & Bartlett Learning. I received a B.S. in Biology from Eastern University  (formerly Eastern College) and a Ph.D. in Biology from the Program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Brown University .

From 1999 to 2001, I served as a member of the Westmont Hilltop School District Board of Directors.
