Armed conflict has profound effects on people who experience it directly. However, collective violence such as war also generates or worsens a series of stressful conditions such as poverty, marginalization, isolation, inadequate housing, and changes in family structure and functioning.

 

Studies of daily stressors following conflict have found they have powerful effects on mental health among survivors of armed conflict.
