Trends in age-specific prevalence of hypertension in men in the US.

The data in 1960-62 are from NHES, the data in 1976-80 from NHANES II, and the data in 1988-94 from NHANES III.

A person with hypertension is defined by either having elevated blood pressure (systolic pressure of at least 140 mmHg or diastolic pressure of at least 90mmHg) or taking antihypertensive medication. Percents are based on a single measurement of blood pressure to provide comparable data across the 4 time periods.
